You may have missed our announcement of a new fund to help the heart and soul of the animal protection movement. Those individuals who are helping to plant the seeds of change where it starts. The seeds that take root and grow into the ideas and messages that inspire individuals to change for the animals’ sake. Some of the most powerful ideas and actions that help animals are put forth by grassroots organizations. Passionate individuals working on determination and a shoestring budget – if any budget at all.

The small but mighty... The dedicated few... Those grassroots activists who are sowing the seeds of change for animals by working from the bottom up, across the country. Thinking globally and working locally, these activists are growing the number of compassionate individuals, one community at a time.

And now there’s a way to help all theses individual grassroots groups in one action. That’s because the Humane Research Council (HRC) sees grassroots organizations like you do – as hard-working but under-funded heroes. And that’s why we developed our new Grassroots Research Fund; to provide cutting-edge research training to the advocates who need it most.

When it comes to speaking out for animals, we know every voice counts. But at HRC we also know that “what” is being said and “who” the message is directed toward are both critical to making that voice heard. Grassroots organizations do amazing work speaking out for animals of all kinds, and HRC can help them be even more effective. With your donation, we can impart years of expertise in strategy, tactics, planning and evaluation to small and underfunded animal protection organizations to help them help more animals.

All donations to this new fund will directly facilitate professional research and marketing consulting to grassroots animal organizations that can’t normally afford our discounted services. P.S.: I bet a lot of you are like me; I got my feet wet helping animals at the grassroots level as a volunteer and doing what I could for free, on my own time and my own dime (literally). I joined with other like-minded people and at times “worked” for small organizations that had no paid staff. We pulled all-nighters, made copies at Kinko’s, and stood out in the rain just to hand out a few hand-made fliers.

Some of the best “jobs” out there really are un- or low-paid grassroots positions; mothers, coaches, civil, environmental and animal activists. But that’s not to say they all couldn’t use a little extra super power, which is just what grassroots activists could get from HRC’s Grassroots Research Fund.
