Making Superheroes out of Heroes

| |

2012 is nearly upon us, and everyone at the Humane Research Council would like to take a moment to thank our donors, volunteers, and clients, as well as everyone who uses our resources to help animals.

Dog RunningWith your support, in 2011 HRC made huge strides toward our mission of empowering animal advocates to use research to be more effective and help more animals. We accomplished so much more than we can list in this short email, but please see below for some of HRC's major highlights from the past year.

As the year comes to an end, please make a tax-deductible donation to HRC.

Note: All donations during the month of December will go toward HRC's Grassroots Research Fund so we can provide free research services to small animal groups. We need to raise $3,500 to be able to support one more organization during the next cycle.

Bonus: If you donate before January 1st, you'll be eligible to win a copy of Caryn Ginsberg's wonderful new book, Animal Impact.

Thank you again for your support of HRC in 2011 and for using the power of information to be more effective in your work for animals. Together we’re making a difference.

Stay tuned for some exciting new announcements from HRC in 2012!

Happy New Year,

Che Green, on behalf of the HRC team

P.S. If you donate before January 1st, you'll automatically be entered to win a copy of Animal Impact, the exciting new how-to book for animal advocates, written by HRC advisor Caryn Ginsberg. Please make a donation!

Making Superheroes out of Heroes: HRC in 2011

This year, your support allowed HRC to help elevate animal advocacy to a new level. Below are just a few of our accomplishments in 2011:
  • Information = Power. HumaneSpot.org - HRC's research website - provides the world's most comprehensive database (with alert service) of opinion and behavior research relating to animals. In 2011 we added more than 350 new research citations and external resources. If you're not yet signed up for HumaneSpot.org, you're missing out!

  • Humane Trends Study Released. HRC released our landmark Humane Trends study in August. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of a broad set of indicators to measure the state of animal protection in the U.S. Check out and comment on the study's results, available at www.HumaneTrends.com.

  • Supporting Our Clients. HRC's core function is to help advocates carry out research to evaluate and improve their programs and campaigns. HRC provides discounted consulting services, written reports, presentations, training, and other resources exclusively for animal and environmental advocates. In 2011 we helped dozens of animal groups, thanks to your support.

  • New Training Workshops. Last year HRC trained hundreds of advocates to help them be more effective in their work for animals. We also announced our new research training workshops to help you and your team or colleagues understand and use research to help more animals. Learn more about our hour-long, half-day, and full-day workshops.

  • Animal Tracker Enters Year Four. HRC's Animal Tracker is an annual survey of animal-related attitudes and behaviors that accurately tracks changes over time. In 2011 we completed the fourth year of the survey and also updated our popular Charting Tool that allows advocates to easily visualize the data and compare different years.

  • Datasets and Autopsies. In addition to our Animal Tracker survey, HRC also provides full datasets for researchers and academics as well as original content for animal advocates. In 2011 we released our Humane Trends dataset and a new food recall dataset. We also published more than 80 blogs covering a wide range of important animal issues.

  • Power to the Grassroots! In 2011 we began the first two projects under HRC's new Grassroots Research Fund, which provides free research services to small animal groups. We just completed a public opinion survey for the Animal Rights Coalition and we're also working on understanding the impact of owner surrender on behalf of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies.
