Short Description:
This article summarizes findings from a survey of animal shelter and rescue workers. The survey, designed and administered by HRC, was commissioned by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Respondents were asked about various animal protection issues and their use of HSUS resources.
Abstract:
Survey Findings:
- "Nine in ten respondents (90 percent) say it is “very important” to have national animal welfare organizations working to prevent cruelty and confront national problems. Another 9 percent say it is “somewhat important,” meaning that overall 99 percent think it is important to have national organizations."
- Most respondents (89%) have either personally utilized an HSUS program(s) or someone in their organization has.
- "A very strong majority of respondents (86 percent) DISAGREES with the statement, “National organizations should scale back their campaigns to combat factory farming, puppy mills, animal fighting, and other cruelties.”"
- 99% of respondents felt it was very or somewhat important that the animal protection movement retain a broad focus that includes pets, wildlife, and farm animals.
