Moving Beyond the Academy: Presenting Data to Advocates

Animal exploitation industries spend large amounts of money on research and development so that they can better “sell” their message that animals are objects for consumption, rather than individuals who deserve to live free from harm. Unfortunately, the animal protection movement does not have the resources to conduct the same type of research. HRC tries to fill the gap, not only by conducting research, but also by consolidating the research of others that relates to the animal advocacy cause.

What's Your Animal Story?

Over nine billion animals killed for food each year in the U.S. alone ... about three million healthy and adoptable dogs and cats euthanized in shelters ... seventy-six thousand animals enduring painful experiments in labs without relief. For those who care about animals, the numbers tell a sad story.

The Human Cost of Animal Exploitation: A Foundation for Coalition-Building

All humans are disadvantaged by animal exploitation in key ways—meat and dairy consumption compromises our health, animal agriculture is the most deleterious industry to our environment, the violence implicit in animal exploitation perpetuates and reinforces a broader culture of violence, and the list goes on. There are also ways in which disadvantaged people are specifically exploited by industries that also promote animal abuse. It is the least advantaged humans who are operating and working in the industries that cause harm to some of the greatest numbers of animals. This needs to be attended to in order to fully address issues of animal exploitation.

Should You Share This Video?

The growth of social media has made it possible to bring advocacy messages to a much wider audience. In just seconds, you can pass along comments, photos, and videos to educate people about animal issues. But just because it's easy to forward the latest Facebook post, Twitter or blog entry, doesn't mean it's effective.
